RONNIE Matias and Ronjay Buenafe came-off with personal highs but not enough to put Burger King on the next level of the wildcard knockout round Sunday night.
Matias scored a career best 23 points with six rebounds and Buenafe established a personal conference high 27 points in Burger King’s 112-118 loss to Coca-Cola that ended their campaign in the 35th PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Former Burger King Gary David scattered 21 points for the Coca-Cola Tigers, who took as many as 21-point lead all-throughout the game. But the Whopper, through Buenafe, Matias and Alex Cabagnot, refused to give up in the fourth period.
That Tigers’ 21-point advantage, somehow, banished after successive plays of Richard Yee, who poured in 19 points and hauled down 12 rebounds, and Buenafe.
Beau Belga had 10 points to go along with nine rebounds and two blocks, while Alex Cabagnot finished with six assists and two steals, and Wesley Gonzales had nine points, including two triples.

Coca-Cola now advances to the last round of wildcard to face Rain or Shine on Wednesday. The Elasto Painters beat out the Sta. Lucia Realtors, 90-86, in a fierce showdown earlier in the day.
The Tigers and the Elasto Painters battle in another do-or-die encounter in the same venue Wednesday with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals versus the Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants.
The Realtors, who narrowly missed an outright quarters seat, settled for eighth place with the Whoppers next at ninth.
Macapagal had 22, Espino 16 and Gonzales 14.
Two weeks from now, the Burger King Whopper’s practice will resume for the next conference.
