Burger King absorbs stinging setback anew

BURGER KING came up short in the second half and fell to a 104-122 decision against Barangay Ginebra on Sunday in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA)Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
Hulking Beau Belga tried his best and came up with 17 points and grabbed five boards, while swingman Ronjay Buenafe struggled all-throughout to finish with 12 points and two steals for the Whopper, who absorbed a 5-12 card.
After a close first quarter (27-29) and halftime (55-57) scores, the Gin Kings went berserk in the opening minutes of third quarter to completely outscore the Whopper, 35-19, behind former Air21 player JC Intal, Cyrus Baguio and Willy Wilson.
“We tried our best but we’re struggling,” said center-forward JR Quinahan. “Ginebra really played a good second half. There’s still hope left for us, I think. We just need to play hard.”
Alex Cabagnot, playing his second game in a Whopper uniform, also struggled but finished with 13 points along with seven assists and six boards, while Carlo Sharma scored 13 points too and 6’4 swingman Wesley Gonzales had 11 points.   
Rookie Ronnie Matias and Egay Billiones contributed nine points each also for Burger King.
Intal and Baguio led Ginebra with 24 points apiece.
Although Burger King led in some departments like in assists (22-20) rebounding (53-52) and steals (8-5)against Ginebra, the Whopper were very lethargic shooting in the field after finishing only 42-of-100 (42%) compared to his Gin Kings’ 43-of-81 (53.1%).
