New import Jason Forte wasn’t impressive in his debut but showed some signs that he can carry the Air21 Express to new heights this 35th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Fiesta Conference.
Forte was good only for 10 points in the first three quarters but scored 10 straight points in the fourth period for 20 points although the Express suffered their third straight loss against the Alaska Aces, 95-105, on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
“We have to let it go and start a brand new day,” said Forte, a veteran of some European leagues, after the loss. “We just need to work hard Sunday and win. I’m confident I can still adjust to your system.”
Forte also had 14 rebounds along with two assists, a steal and a block.
Ronjay Buenafe scattered with 19 points on 3-of-5 shooting beyond the arc and Mike Cortez had 11 points, while Beau Belga and Egay Billiones also got 10 points each to lead the Express, who fell to 1-4 log.
Diamon Simpson led Alaska with 29 points and 14 rebounds with three blocks.
The game went close at the first three quarters and even around the last four-minute mark but Alaska’s triangle offense prevailed in the end for the Aces’ first win after three games.
